The Glass Recycling Network

Turning urban waste into urban resource

【Recycling Resources】

The glass recycling network of Crystal Clay Co., Ltd. is a system that turns scrap glass produced in cities into new urban resources. Crystal Clay uses collected waste glass to develop artificial super-light aggregate, as well as tile blocks, floor materials, outdoor furniture, and other viable products. These eco-friendly materials are developed in compliance with the Law on Promoting Green Purchasing. Furthermore, a resource recycling system has the potential to increase overall economic efficiency.

【R&D at Crystal Clay】

R&D at Crystal Clay Co., Ltd. has succeeded in recycling and reusing waste glass resources, including colored glass scraps that were considered un-recyclable and dumped in landfill sites until now. With the support from NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization), Crystal Clay Co., Ltd. has extended its study on resource recycling system in areas such as producing hydro-thermally solidified materials from glass waste, and building an environmentally friendly system using multi-functional hybrid material.

Companies sympathetic with the aims of recovery, recycling, and remanufacturing joined forces, and used the lightweight material G-Lite, which is made up mostly of glass cullets, to create new products such as construction tiles, OA floors, and outdoor furniture. Products are now being developed in accordance with green purchasing methods, and there are also great expectations for the economic effects of this resource cycle. It has also become possible to reuse colored glass bottles, which have previously merely been buried in landfills. We gave this project high marks for the actual design of an integrated process and network that handles everything from collection to reuse, for the construction of a highly feasible new recycling industry system that moves us closer to a sustainable society, and for the creation of a new line of business
